86 Days. That's What's Left Before Indonesia Closes the Door on Uncertified Cosmetics.

Mark the date: October 17, 2026.

That's when Indonesia's staged halal certification mandate reaches cosmetics, traditional medicines, and consumer goods, after food and beverage already became mandatory back in October 2024.

A few things I keep running into with manufacturers who haven't started yet.

Most assume this is a food company problem. It isn't. If you make skincare, cosmetics, personal care, or supplements and you want to sell into the world's largest Muslim-majority market, this deadline applies to you too.

Most assume there's plenty of time. There isn't, really. BPJPH has publicly flagged an application backlog with no clear contingency plan as the deadline approaches. Certification isn't instant. Document prep, audit, and the fatwa process all take real weeks and months, and that timeline gets longer, not shorter, as volume surges closer to the deadline.

Most assume they can wait and see. The ones who wait tend to be the ones scrambling in the third quarter, competing for audit slots with everyone else who also waited.

If you're a foreign F&B or cosmetics manufacturer with Indonesia in your plans and you haven't started, the math on "when do I need to begin" gets worse every month you delay, not better. These are my own observations from working with manufacturers on this timeline, based on public BPJPH statements, not a guarantee of any individual company's processing time.
